In April 2025, KEW Legal® completed a corporate name change for a nonprofit client, carrying the change through the Florida Division of Corporations, the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and the Department of Revenue.
A name change is simple to file and difficult to finish. KEW Legal® prepared and finalized the amendment, coordinated the client’s execution, and submitted the filing package to the Division of Corporations, setting the client’s expectations on the timeline each agency would require.
The firm drafted the IRS notice needed to update the organization’s name on its 501(c)(3) recognition and sent the client a draft for review before filing.
Following the filings, KEW Legal® pursued each agency directly — repeated calls to the Division of Corporations, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the IRS Practitioner Priority Line, and the Department of Revenue — until every record reflected the new name, updating the client at each stage and clarifying the treatment of the organization’s EIN.
“The filing takes an afternoon. Making sure four different agencies actually processed it takes months,” said Kristina E. Wilson.
